How to Get from Bucharest Airport

The main ways to leave Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport are a pre-booked private transfer, licensed taxi, ride-sharing service, direct train, Express bus or rental car. The train connects OTP with Bucharest North station, and bus 100 serves the city center. There is no operational airport metro station yet, although a metro connection is under construction.

Bucharest Airport Transfer Guide

A pre-booked Bucharest Airport transfer provides direct road transportation from OTP to the address entered during booking. AirportTransferNow offers private transfer booking subject to the route, date, vehicle and booking availability.

Provide the complete hotel, apartment, office or private-address details, including the correct Bucharest sector or surrounding locality. Central Bucharest, Otopeni and destinations outside the capital involve different road journeys. For accommodation in the Old Town, check whether vehicle access reaches the exact door or a nearby permitted stopping point.

The airport offers several alternatives. The train connects OTP with Gara de Nord, where passengers can continue by metro, rail, taxi or local transport. Express bus 100 serves central Bucharest, while licensed taxis and ride-sharing services provide road transportation under separate pickup systems.

A private transfer can be useful for groups, substantial luggage, unfamiliar addresses or destinations beyond the convenient public-transport network. Its meeting point is determined by the individual booking, not by the airport taxi or ride-sharing rules. Check the confirmation before leaving the arrivals area.

Pickup at Bucharest Airport

After landing at OTP, follow the applicable passport-control route, collect all checked baggage and pass customs before entering the public Arrivals area.

For an AirportTransferNow booking, consult your confirmation after completing the arrival process. It contains the exact meeting-point, pickup and contact details for the selected transfer. Do not assume that a taxi rank, touchscreen taxi pickup, ride-sharing area or terminal exit is the correct private-transfer meeting place.

Passengers ordering a taxi through the airport’s touchscreen system will receive a ticket identifying the vehicle, registration number, estimated arrival time and operating tariff. They then proceed to the signed taxi boarding area in front of Arrivals.

The airport currently places ride-sharing pickup at Departures, with the precise location shown in the relevant app. Construction can also affect pedestrian access around Arrivals and the railway station, so follow current airport signs.

Taxi from Bucharest Airport

Henri Coandă Airport provides licensed taxis authorized by Bucharest Municipality or Ilfov County. Taxis are available at signed stands outside the terminal and from a station on the ground floor of Arrivals. Fares are calculated according to the operating tariff displayed by the taxi company rather than a universal fixed airport price.

Passengers may also order an authorized taxi from touchscreen terminals in the public area on the first floor of Arrivals, to the right after leaving the baggage-belt area. The machine issues a ticket containing the taxi identifier, registration number, estimated arrival time, company tariff and contact information. Retain this ticket after the journey.

Check that the vehicle and registration match the issued ticket, and use the specially marked boarding area in front of Arrivals. The airport warns that soliciting passengers inside its perimeter is prohibited.

Taxi procedures are separate from AirportTransferNow transfers and app-based ride-sharing. Travelers with a private-transfer confirmation should follow its specified meeting instructions.

Public Transport from Bucharest Airport

A direct railway connects Henri Coandă Airport with Bucharest North station, or Gara de Nord. The airport states that trains operate throughout the day and night at regular intervals, with a typical journey of approximately 20 minutes. Check the live national railway timetable for the travel date.

During current parking-modernization work, access to the railway station is through the ground floor of the Arrivals terminal. Follow the airport’s temporary graphic signs, as the walking route may change.

Express bus 100 connects OTP with central Bucharest and operates during the day and night. Airport stops are in front of the Arrivals and Departures terminals. Tickets or travel products are available from facilities outside Arrivals, with payment options determined by the public-transport operator.

The train can suit passengers continuing through Gara de Nord or the metro network. Bus 100 can be practical for destinations near its central corridor. Neither provides universal hotel delivery, so a local connection or walk may be necessary. The future M6 airport metro is not yet in passenger service.

Private Transfer vs Taxi and Public Transport

A pre-booked private transfer provides direct transportation to the selected address and supplies its pickup details in advance. It can suit groups, substantial luggage and destinations that require additional connections from public transport.

Licensed taxis provide on-demand travel from the airport. Passengers can use the rank or touchscreen ordering system and should check the displayed per-kilometer tariff.

Ride-sharing services offer app-based pricing and vehicle identification. The airport’s designated pickup is currently at Departures, so arriving passengers must follow the route and map shown in the app.

The direct train avoids road congestion and is practical for Gara de Nord or onward rail travel. It may require a metro, taxi or local-transit connection to the final address. Express bus 100 serves the central corridor but is affected by road traffic.

A rental car offers flexibility outside Bucharest, while adding collection procedures, navigation, parking and urban driving responsibilities.

Bucharest Airport Transfer Prices

AirportTransferNow pricing depends on the destination, travel date, vehicle category, passenger requirements and booking availability. Check the live quote after entering the complete address and confirm that the selected vehicle suits the passengers and luggage.

Licensed airport taxis display an operating rate per kilometer. The completed fare therefore depends on the chosen company, distance and road conditions. Review the tariff shown on the touchscreen or vehicle before boarding.

Ride-sharing prices can change with demand. Train and bus fares are set by their respective operators and may be lower per passenger, but another ticket or final taxi can be required. Compare the cost and effort of the complete journey rather than only the initial segment from OTP.

Tips for Your Bucharest Airport Transfer

Confirm that your flight arrives at OTP rather than Bucharest Băneasa Airport. The two airports have different locations and pickup arrangements.

Enter the complete destination address and Bucharest sector when applicable. Keep the booking confirmation accessible offline after landing.

If using a touchscreen-ordered taxi, retain the printed ticket after the journey. It contains details that may be needed for a complaint or lost-property enquiry.

Ride-sharing customers should follow the live pickup map in their app because the airport moved the designated collection area to Departures in April 2026.

For the airport train, use the ground floor of Arrivals and follow the current signs to the station. Allow enough time at Gara de Nord if continuing by another train or metro service.

Meet & Greet

Meet & Greet service is available with AirportTransferNow transfer bookings. Follow the meeting-point instructions provided in your booking confirmation, as the exact procedure and location may vary by airport, terminal and booking.

About Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport

Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport is located in Otopeni, north of central Bucharest. It is the Romanian capital’s principal international airport and should not be confused with Bucharest Băneasa–Aurel Vlaicu Airport.

The passenger complex has distinct Arrivals and Departures areas. Ground transportation is available from signed locations around the terminals, while the airport railway station provides a direct connection to Bucharest North station, commonly called Gara de Nord.

An address described only as “Bucharest” may refer to the historic center, a business district, a residential sector or accommodation outside the municipal core. Traffic conditions and road access can therefore vary significantly. Travelers continuing to another Romanian city should also determine whether a direct road transfer or a connection through Gara de Nord is more practical.

Available transport includes a pre-booked private transfer, licensed airport taxi, ride-sharing service, train, Express bus and rental car. A metro extension to the airport is under construction, but OTP does not currently have an operational Bucharest Metro station.
